Developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) involves listening to specially-filtered music through headphones alongside a provider, remotely or in-person. The SSP transmits cues of safety through specific frequencies helping to shift the nervous system out of chronic states of defense and into a state of regulation and safety. The SSP is a safe, non-invasive approach designed to reduce sound sensitivities, improve auditory processing, behavioral state regulation, and social engagement behaviors. The SSP is available to all ages and walks of life. The SSP gives you the opportunity to respond better to the challenges of life and build stronger connections with the people around you!

SSP Services

Preparation and Planning

It all begins with a willingness to engage and participate fully in the process with your SSP Provider. We will begin with an introductory meeting either in person or remote depending on which delivery method you choose. Pre and post assessments are tailored to evaluating YOUR nervous system. Further education will be provided prior to starting the listening protocol as well continuing through the completion and evaluation.

Delivery Model

You will have the option of completing the SSP in-person, remote or hybrid depending on your location. Your provider will discuss these options with you. Typically the protocol is completed within a 30-60 day time frame. Your provider will be available for you during the entire duration of your SSP experience.

One SSP: Three Pathways

The Connect Pathway is full-spectrum, un- filtered music. It is used to introduce the SSP experience and you can listen to it in any order. The Core Pathway is progressive and dynamically filtered music. It is the strongest and potentially most therapeutic pathway. You should listen in order and should avoid repeating until complete. The Balance Pathway is lightly filtered music. You can listen in any order and repeat hours as needed. The duration of listening will be titrated as needed.

Completion and Evaluation of SSP

A post assessment will take place 6-8 weeks after completing the SSP. This gives your autonomic nervous system time to regulate and respond to your everyday life circumstances. You will be able to effectively evaluate your progress by comparing the pre and post assessments.
